Figuratively Speaking: The Human Figure in Clay

Our clay students have been asking for this and now we are thrilled to be able to offer a clay class that specializes in capturing the human figure in clay. Did you ever wonder to how make those realistic looking wrinkles, facial expressions, heads, hand gestures, eyes, and even toes in your clay projects? This class will teach you techniques to bring your clay to life with realism and proportion. Students will study anatomical characteristics with a live model paying special attention to hand and foot gestures and the human head. This class will be a study and practice in details as well as overall balance and symmetry. Participants will work at their own level of clay ability and no prior experience is necessary. All registered class members will have access to open studio hours to work on their pieces outside of class time. This is a special offering so register early to secure your spot. All supplies are included.


 

Color Scratchboard

After an amazing response with her Introduction to Scratchboard Workshop, Award winning scratchboard artist, Susan Threadgill has agreed to teach another class for CAPS. Susan will introduce participants to the art of “taking away”. Scratchboard is traditionally done in black and white but Susan will demonstrate how to add color to scratchboard drawings. No Experience Necessary. Class participants can choose to work from several different design templates. Every participant will complete one 8x10 scratchboard work of art. Class size will be limited for personalized attention and all supplies are included.



 Tie-Dye Extravaganza

Looking for something fun to do over the summer?  Learn the techniques of making beautiful rainbow tie-dye projects, while making new friends at the CCAC in the heart of the village of Allegany.  This class is open for students, ages 8-14 who would like to explore their creative side. Make colorful and wearable art that your friends and family will absolutely love!!  Students may bring along white, natural fibred gear to tie dye or T-Shirts, pillowcases, and other materials will be provided. Each session, students will learn a new technique. Students will also learn how to make their own dye at home using their favorite summer-Kool Aid drink mix!  Come join in the fun!!!!

 


Intro to Jewelry Enameling

Age 16 and up 

Enameling is an old and widely used art form. It has been used by ancient Egyptians to decorate pottery and the ancient Greeks, Russians and Chinese also used enameling processes on metal objects. Come celebrate our new Table Top kiln with its first use and firing with CAPS instructor Peter Goergen, who will demonstrate the basic process of enameling on metal. Students will leave with one-of-a-kind hand made jewelry.

Pottery for the People

This is one of CAPS most popular classes. Come rejuvenate your creative side with our pottery class and new high fire kiln. This class is designed for students ranging from the very beginning to advanced wheel throwers. Peter will guide students in all aspects of working with clay, glazes, and firing. You will learn the basics of hand building and slab work, wheel throwing, form and function and a few secrets of the trade too. All supplies are included in the cost of tuition and all students are eligible for independent studio time to work on projects throughout the week.

 


Pottery for the Younger People

Ages 11-15

 

High school teacher Heather Lee will lead students in an intro pottery class for students aged 10-15.  This pottery class will teach the basics of coil/hand building and slab construction and allows students to keep their creativity active throughout the summer. Students will glaze or paint all projects. All supplies are included. Come have fun on your summer vacation with CAPS!

 


Plein Air Painting

Tuesday  September 14, 21, 28 | 10am- 1pm| CCAC

Instructor: Judson Brown

Ages 16 and up 

Judson Brown will share his experiences and offer guidance to the group to complete a painting a day. The class will stress the necessity of simplifying the complex while catching the spirit of the scene at hand. Color KEYS will be emphasized and illustrated as the essence to making a successful on location painting. Because this class with be outdoors, and we live in WNY with unpredictable weather, a rain day may be scheduled. Please bring you own painting supplies.
